Support Unit

Revesby Public School is extremely proud of its support unit which has been an important part of the school community for over 20 years.

There are three Support Unit classes which cater for students with a range of abilities including students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities and students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Classes are smaller and offer a higher level of individual learning support. Each class has a teacher and Student Learning Support Officer who are trained in supporting students with special education learning needs. Our teachers are experienced in differentiating the curriculum to ensure that each student continually achieves success.

Our Support Unit students are part of an inclusive culture and access many opportunities including SRC, PSSA sport, District and Regional carnivals, choir, dance groups and School Spectacular. They share the playgrounds with their mainstream peers, attend all whole school events and excursions and learn topics in line with the mainstream curriculum.

How students access our support unit

Placement in our support unit follows an access request process. This helps us understand each student’s needs and plan the right support. The process usually includes:

  1. Meeting with our learning support team to talk about your child’s needs
  2. Providing documents or assessments
  3. Review and recommendation by a specialist panel
  4. Creating an individual education plan (IEP) for your child

You can contact our school anytime to ask about our support options and how the process works.

How we work with families and specialists

We work closely with families and specialists to support every student. Our teachers stay in touch with parents and carers to share progress and plan next steps.

We also work with therapists, counsellors and health professionals so students get the same support across school and home.
