At Revesby Public School, our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 classes are actively involved in the Best Start program. This program ensures that all students are on track in their literacy and numeracy learning by Year 3.
Best Start Kindergarten Assessment
The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment is designed to identify each student's literacy and numeracy skills and understanding at the beginning of Kindergarten.
Please see our Kindergarten page for more information on how this is implemented at our school.
Best Start is inclusive: All children have the opportunity to participate. Teachers of students with confirmed disabilities and/or special needs are additionally supported in building a profile that informs quality teaching and learning programs for these students.
In addition student learning is supported by a range of interventions and programs at our school that include:
- Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) for Kindergarten students
- Targeting Early Numeracy (TEN) program that compliments the established Count Me In Too (CMIT) numeracy program for K-2 students
- Reading Recovery Program for children in Year 1. These children are identified at the end of Kindergarten who require extra one-on-one assistance in developing their reading skills.
- Gifted and Talented Kindergarten Project is currently being implemented in our school in 2012. This is developing programs to address the needs of students who have achieved the Best Start outcomes quickly that are being taught.
