Success Criteria

At Revesby Public School we use success criteria to describe what successful achievement of the learning goal looks like. It is this success criteria that helps students recognise if they have been successful in their learning against the learning intentions.

The most significant benefits of success criteria is that are helping in cultivating independent learners, provide effective feedback and create confident students who contribute to activities.  We have found that students become more active in the learning process.

When students have explicit success criteria at hand, they are more informed about how they will be assessed and what success will look like. This has had a direct effect and students are better able to assess their own and others' work to identify successes and identify areas for future improvement.

Success criteria also allows teachers and the students to give accurate feedback as it keeps the focus  on the criteria that the work will be assessed against.

Put simply it is all about creating awareness around what success looks like through providing explicit criteria.
