School Religious Education

Special Religious Education

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.

Special Religious Education
At Revesby Public School, the students have the opportunity to attend a half hour Special Religious Education (SRE) class which is an integral part of the curriculum in government schools. K-2 Scripture – 10.30am-11.00am and 3-6 Scripture – 11.30-12.00pm. We provide the following scripture classes: Protestant (which caters for all Christian churches other than Catholic), Catholic, Muslim, Orthodox and Sikh.

Each teacher of Special Religious Education is authorised by the approved provider. All Scripture teachers hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Scripture classes are supervised by school staff.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the school office, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Revesby Public School:

Special Education in Ethics
Primary Ethics is the approved provider of Ethics classes offered at our school.
The Primary Ethics curriculum is available on the website at www.primaryethics.com.au. We are now able to offer Ethic Classes to students in Year 1 as we have a volunteer officially trained to run the program.

During the time that SRE or SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities including reading, finishing set class tasks or homework.
